La Crosse's Monsoor leads FLW bass tourney

STODDARD, WI - He's known on the FLW Tour as the "Mississippi River Monster."
La Crosse's Tom Monsoor proved it on Thursday, taking over the lead in the FLW Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Super Tournament on the Mississippi River in Stoddard, WI.
Monsoor, in 31st place in the 2020 standings with 579 points and $38,500, caught another five-fish limit. Coupled with Wednesday's 14-pound, 3-ounce weight, his second-day bag weighed in at 14-8 for a 28-11.
Scott Wiley, from Bay Minnette, AL, the first-day leader, dropped into second place with a total weight of 27-15.
"I don't know what happened, said Monsoor, in seventh place after Wednesday's opening round.
"I just caught a couple. You never know," he deadpanned.
All five of Monsoor's bass weighed a little over three pounds - three largemouth and two smallmouth.
Monsoor said a green pumpkin football jig was the main lure, adding  the fish were not concentrated.
"Just here and there. I just kept plugging away," he said, adding that his best success was on Pool 8 of the Mississippi River.
Monsoor, in his 17th year on the FLW Tour with $970,027 in career earnings, could hit the $1 million mark with a strong finish. However, he is only concentrating on Friday, and hopefully, Saturday.
